Cottage Country, Cottage Rentals in Ontario

To truly experience Canada and its beautiful wilderness you must visit Canada Cottage Country. Known for its lakes and picturesque views, cottage country was the muse for the famous group of seven artists.

Canada’s ‘cottage country’ is not just one region but is a common term amongst locals from any province.  City dwellers in Toronto often refer to Muskoka and the Haliburton region as cottage country. Many lakes and rivers dot these areas, which include Algonquin Park, the Haliburton Highlands and the great Canadian Shield. In eastern Ontario, cottage country is considered the area near the Rideau Lakes, with such noted attractions as the stone arch dam at Jones Falls and the Rideau Waterway. In northern Ontario, Kenora is the cottage area for residents. Close to the Manitoba border, their downtown harbour front is a major attraction for tourists and is home to a major international bass fishing tournament.

According to Manitobans, the area near Whiteshell Provincial Park is their cottage country. It’s found in the south-eastern portion of the province, bordering Ontario. With its many rivers, quiet lakes, and boreal forest, it’s a great place for many cottage activities, like boating, fishing, and hiking. The park also has rare archeological sites of petro forms, man-made rock formations, on its granite ridges.

In Nova Scotia, cottage country is Hants County, home to not only many lakes and rivers, but also to the rich history of the Acadians and the Mi’kmaq. If you’re e British Columbia, then you might want to visit their interior, like the Okanagan and Shuswap County, to experience their cottage country.

Of course, the best way to enjoy Canada cottage country is by renting your own cottage. An affordable and comfortable accommodation, it provides a home away from home, wherever you chose to visit.
