Cranberry Retreat

Three bedroom lakefront house/cottage on the historic Rideau Canal System,  Cranberry Retreat is a newly revnovated home that is currently serving as the family cottage.  It is availble for occassional weekly rental to guests from May to October.  With 2 double and 1 single beds, it sleeps 5 but there’s lot of space for air mattresses and sleeping bags.  The cottage is walkout, with the bedrooms and large open kitchen (leading to balcony) on the upper level, and the large living room downstairs with a walkout to the lakefront.  The cottage is exceptionally clean and fully furnished, with all bedding, dishes, cutlery and appliances, including microwave and barbeque included. 

Cranberry Retreat is situtated on Cranberry Lake, separated from the busier Rideau Canal by a large island, visible from the front window.  It has shallow, level shoreline and sits in a peaceful and quiet setting, tucked away from the old fashioned country road by a large expanse of trees.  Guests will wake only to the sound of the birds or perhaps the quiet mooing of cows in the distance.  In addition to several hundred feet of level shoreline which makes the property suitable for children it also has a large greenspace for playing, badminton, etc.  The dead-end country road provides miles of walking, hiking or biking scenery for visitors and the lake boasts excellent fishing (particularly for bass and pike) and guests can experience nature firsthand along the shorelines and in the bays as they explore in the provided canoe. 

The property has exceptional views, is very private and tranquil, yet is within easy distance of larger centres with lots & lots of summer activities.  The owners live very close by and are available to guests if needed at any time during their stay.

The property is located on Cranberry Lake, part of the Rideau Canal system, a UNESCO world heritage site featuring 125miles of waterway and lock systems between Kingston and Ottawa.  There are many, many wonderful little towns and villages along the banks of the Rideau and it’s adjoinging lakes to visit and experience. One of the remaining wooden swing bridges on the system is located very near to the cottage.

Located approximately 35 minutes north of Kingston, 1.5 hours south of Ottawa, and 45 minutes from the US border, the cottage is just outside of Seeley’s Bay, a small waterfront village hosting  a grocery store, restaurant, ice cream parlour & gift shop, LCBO & beer store, post office, pharmacy, medical centre, hardware store, bank, and library among other ammenities.  It is also located 30 minutes from the town of Gananoque, a perennial favorite of visitors to the area, located in the heart of the Thousand Islands.  Gananoque is a picturesque little town with many restaurants, lots of shopping, and home of the Thousand Islands Playhouse, an on-the-water theatre of  with a full season of plays and music.  Guests can enjoy a glass of wine during intermissions while standing on the deck overlooking the St. Lawrence with all its islands and boats.  The spectacular Thousand Islands Boat Cruises are a treat not to be missed for visitors to this area and they can be boarded from either Gananoque or Kingston.
