Welcome to a car-free island paradise, only 25 miles from the U.S./1000 Islands border. The Rideau Canal System, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, offers a unique way of traveling through a 125 mile, 47 lock waterway. You will never run out of places to fish largemouth, smallmouth bass, northern pike and explore this canal that was built in the early 1800’s. Each lock has picnic areas, places to swim and individual historical displays of how the locks were conceived and built. Among the series of locks is Jones Falls, just 2 miles south of the cottage…Davis Locks just 2 miles north of the cottage.

INTERIOR DESCRIPTION

The cottage has 4 bedrooms: The master bedroom has a lake view, double bed plus a sliding door that opens to an outside deck. Two bedrooms have twin bunk beds and the fourth bedroom has a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and a single on the top. There are two futons in the living room which open into two full sized beds.

EXTERIOR DESCRIPTION

The cottage is on 130 feet of waterfront, gently sloped, 40 feet from the dock. The dock is 14 feet by 12 feet. There are trails that weave in and around the island. Go for a brisk walk or run, knowing that motor vehicles are banned from the island. Relax with a good book on the dock or 1 of 2 side decks attached to the cottage. Enjoy the serenity of night–either on the waterfront or from the 30 foot screened in porch–and listen to the loons call to each other across the lake. Boat and four stroke 9.9 Mercury motor included.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY

Take your boat to fish and travel through the locks for a nominal fee per day. Enjoy 3 kayaks and a paddle boat that are included in the rental and portage around the locks if you so choose. Among the quaint towns to shop and explore by car are Newboro, Westport and Kingston–all only 20 to 30 minutes away from the cottage and 1 1/2 hours south of Canada’s capital of Ottawa. The village of Elgin is 10 minutes away and offers a post office, library (with wi-fi), grocery, 3 churches, liquor and beer stores, bank, restaurant, pharmacy, hardware, laundromat, service stations, antique stores and hair salons. Throughout the summer, neighboring communities host some wonderful fairs. There are also some ideal golf courses only minutes away by car.
